Parents have been accused of failing to socialise their children into traditional African culture leaving them to adapt negative Westernisation potentially ruining their morals.
According to Kisii University Vice-Chancellor Prof John Akama many young people involve themselves in social evils since their parents failed to mentor them into embracing their culture.
“Most youth have engaged themselves in evil activities since their parents failed to mentor them well by showing them their culture, what they are supposed to do and what their culture opposes,” said Akama.
Referring to recent happening in Eldoret and Kisumu where students were caught with bhang and other engaging in sexual activities, he said that these learners were not brought up in their culture since they copied other cultures from films and the Internet.
“As parents we have forgotten the responsibility of guiding our children by teaching them their culture before they come to urban centers where they find many activities which ruin their character,” added the vice-chancellor.
Prof Akama said that if young people are well mentored by their parents such happenings cannot take place in the society as the society.
