Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a has called on Thika parents and guardians to act as role models to their children in a bid to raise responsible and resourceful Kenyan citizens.
This comes after cases of parental negligence have been reported to be among the major issues affecting children in Thika.
Speaking in Thika Town on Tuesday, Ng’ang’a said that majority of children indulge in heinous activities due to lack of parental guidance and a role model to look up to when they become of age.
The Thika law maker cited cases of school drop outs engaging in criminal activity. She said parents should always be on the lookout and guide their children.
She said teachers alone cannot educate the children on life issues as majority of children opt to become like their mothers and fathers when they grow up, thus urged guardians and parents to be responsible.
The legislator said cases of domesticviolence should be avoided in the presence of children to enable them have a positive attitude towards marriage.
Ng'ang'a noted that majority of youths today prefer being single not by choice but due to their painful backgrounds and childhood experience.
“When your child witnesses domestic violence each and every day, he or she will have a negative attitude towards getting married and that is why we have many single ladies and bachelors in our society,” said Ng’ang’a.
She urged children to be wise in choosing their role models in life as it is fundamental in their day to day life.
