Parents have been asked to be good role models to their children to help avert cases of strikes and indiscipline in schools.
Speaking on Tuesday during a parents' day ceremony at Kenyatta Girls Secondary School in Makongeni, the Kiambu County TNA coordinator and anti-drugs campaigner, Gladys Chania, said cases of strikes in secondary schools and other institutions of higher learning are being fuelled by laxity on the side of the parents.
"Parents must play their cardinal role of offering guidance and mentorship to their children. Teachers cannot be left to do everything while parents take the back seat and watch," said Chania.
Chania also criticised parents whom she said had given their children a free hand on many things including the ones that could affect their studies.
"The other day we had students being sent home on allegations of engaging in homosexuality. Some of these things are learnt on internet and liberal media. The negative exposure we subject our children to must be curtailed," she added.
She also urged the parents to avoid consuming alcohol in their children's presence as it could affect them negatively.
