Spiritual leaders have been asked to keep off behaviour that could compromise their faith and mislead their congregation.

Archdeacon Michael Kariuki of AIPCA Ruiru appealed to church leaders to lead by example if they hope to continue being respected in society and restore confidence among the faithful they lead.

He said that rogue Christian leaders had the potential of misleading Christians from their faith by straying from Biblical teachings and engaging in immoral behaviour while purporting to serve God.

Kariuki cited cases where some church leaders engaging in wife snatching and adultery while condemning the behaviour.

The clergyman took issues with colleagues who have been accused of engaging in politics saying the practice was equal to "mortgaging" followers.

He, however, said that leadership is God-given and anyone selected must serve his people in the right way while working closely with the clergy to serve the best interests of the society.

The clergyman called on local leaders to unite and work together as they never chose themselves into office and that the voters want actions not politics every day.

Speaking when he hosted three Kiambu County leaders during a church service on Sunday, Kariuki insisted that the leaders should serve with respect to the voters as the leadership roles are God-given and no one should misuse his authorities.
