After being certified to package and market Gusii coffee, the management of Gusii Coffee Farmers Co-operative Union (GCFCU) has moved swiftly to encourage residents from the Gusii region to patronise drinking of local coffee, not only to provide market for the region's packaged coffee, but also as a symbol of ownership to their local products.

The union Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robert Mainya, having been certified to package and market Gusii coffee, said the task ahead is to ensure more people accept and patronise the Gusii coffee brand to enhance its marketing and ownership among the region's residents, who are majorly coffee farmers.

Speaking to this writer in his office, Mainya disclosed that Gusii coffee was the best as it was used by various coffee marketers to blend their coffee products with those from other regions before it is sold at the coffee auction.

"As a management, we are proud of our Gusii coffee quality and would want our people to patronize drinking of the local coffee as part of the strategy to win more local market for the product, before we move out for more market segments," stated Mainya.

He further disclosed that the union has rolled out its packaging and marketing strategy, to ensure its product wins preference among local consumers before expanding its strategy of sourcing for an external coffee marketing destination.
