The business community in Nakuru has been urged to prioritise paying taxes and submitting their returns on time to help ease service delivery in Nakuru County.
On Friday, the Kenya Revenue Authority Nakuru station manager Willis Odeyo lauded individual efforts by business persons in the larger county saying the award was an indication of greater things to come.
He spoke at the county headquarters after handing over a certificate of the best tax compliant county in the South Rift region and another one of being the fourth best in the country to Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto,
Odeyo singled out the weeklong waiver period as a time when a majority of stakeholders in the county came to know of the importance of remitting tax returns on time arguing that many were suffering due to lack of knowledge.
“Many of us are willing to pay taxes but lack the relevant knowledge on the procedures, advantages and regional venues to do the same,” he said.
He called on landlords to comply with the latest tax demands saying by the end of next month, many of them will be forced to pay huge fines for being non-compliant.
The distinguished taxpayers’ awards 2015 at Kenyatta International Convention Centre were presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta and were used by KRA to fete the country’s top taxpayers.
Among best performing counties, Nakuru came fourth after Kisii County which scooped the top award followed by Meru in second while Nyeri settled for the third spot during the Wednesday event.
