People living with disabilities in Nyaribari Chache Sub County have been challenged to apply for funds from the Uwezo kitty to improve their living conditions and avoid relying on donations from well-wishers.

Ibeno ward representative Alfred Onguti said it was regrettable that out of the current 70 women and youth groups that have so far benefitted from the Uwezo fund, only two groups are of people living disabilities.

Speaking at Ibeno shopping centre when he was meeting youth groups that have benefited from the Uwezo funds, the MP called upon all groups not to fear from applying for the funds since they are all eligible.

Onguti urged the beneficiaries to invest the money wisely by identifying viable projects, and if possible venture into new economic activities like soap, tissue paper and candle making which do not need a lot of expertise.

He also called on the groups to repay their loans promptly to enable other applicants to access the kitty, which is an affirmative action group product mooted by President Uhuru Kenyatta immediately he took over power.
