Police have arrested two suspects in Huruma Estate for allegedly soliciting money from the public purporting to be recruiting Kenya Defence Forces cadets.

Eldoret West AP commander Bena Abuga said two were arrested on Tuesday in a hotel in the estate after one of the people who was conned informed them of their whereabouts.

"Of the two, one is from Central and the other one is from Uasin Gishu County. They have been moving around cheating people that they are officers from the Kenya Defence Forces and are recruiting officers at a fee of between Sh250,000 and Sh300,000. Let the public not fall prey to such fraudsters since the KDF recruitment is open and free,” said Abuga.

He said the imposters had a fake admission letter and some cash which is purported to have been gotten from innocent mwananchi in the name of admitting them into the army.

"I urge wananchi to stay vigilant of such fraudsters who walk around in the name of KDF officers stealing money from them and yet they are conmen. The admission documents that we confiscated from the suspects were fake as they did not have the KDF seal,” he added.

The suspects will be arraigned in court on Thursday, he said.
