There was tension at 'Dunga Unuse' slum at Mikindani, Mombasa after youth demonstrated against Tuesday's evictions.
Police engaged in running battles with protesters on Thursday as the youth demanded to be allowed to construct houses in the slum.
They barricaded roads leading to the slum as they harassed motorists.
Five trucks were pelted with stones during the confrontation with the police.
Police had to use teargas to disperse the protesters.
Some officers were injured as the youth pelted stones at them.
One of the demonstrators, Abdul Mohamed said he was born in the slum and had no where to go.
He said the evictions were done without notice and called on government to intervene and help those affected.
Mr Mohamed said: “Our land is being grabbed and the government has done nothing to help us. We will not allow the wall to be built.”
Efforts to speak to the police were futile.
Mombasa County Lands Chief Executive Francis Thoya said the issue will be solved.
Mr Thoya said: “No one should be evicted until we resolve this issue. Where will the residents go after their houses were demolished?”
It is claimed a private developer wants to take the land to construct a factory.
