Bars in Uasin Gishu County selling beer to people who have not attained the age of 18 will be closed, an official said Saturday.

Uasin Gishu County Alcoholic Drinks and Licensing Board Director Armstrong Rono said pubs entertaining minors will be shut and their licences cancelled.

He said some bars in towns in the county entertain minors, warning such social joints to follow the law or face closure.

Mr Rono said the law was clear on who should be sold beer to and who should not.

The director, who spoke in Eldoret town on Saturday said his office has information on bars entertaining students during holidays.

"There are pubs, supermarkets and restaurants selling beers to people below the age of 18," Mr Rono said.

"We will not allow this business that threatens the future of our children. I challenge parents to ensure their children spend time in places that will not tempt them to engage in drinking."
