The Beyond Zero mobile clinic in Kisumu County has served more than 15,000 people, the clinic's patron has said.

The mobile clinic was donated by Tullow Oil Company and handed to Governor Jack Ranguma by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on May 1.

Beyond Zero campaign county patron Olivia Ranguma said the clinic has improved access to healthcare.

She said the clinic has reduced deaths among residents. Ms is the wife of Governor Jack Ranguma.

She was speaking on Friday at Obambo beach in Kisumu during a free medical exercise where more than 2,000 people were treated.

Ms said the Beyond Zero campaign has been entrenched in the county medical systems.

She said residents have received screening and medical tests on diabetes, malaria, HIV/Aids and cancer.

She told residents to take advantage of the mobile clinic and get tested for HIV/Aids.

Ms Ranguma said even after being diagnosed with HIV, people can still live their lives fully.

“I want to assure you that there is life even after one has tested HIV positive,” she said.

She said in Kisumu, Beyond Zero is neither a project nor a campaign adding that it will continue forever.

She was accompanied by Health executive Dr Elizabeth Ogaja.

Ogaja said the county government has acquired eight ambulances to ensure more residents receive medical service.

She said the county is focused at achieving healthcare as envisaged in the Millennium Development Goals by making the health of mothers a priority.

Ogaja said health for mothers is a pillar to the country’s economic development.

“We are aware that good health is a requirement for productivity,” she said.

She said for women to access and benefit from the various opportunities that the government has made available to them, they must be in good health.
