The Kisumu County government has been asked to demolish old and abandoned buildings as they pose a security and environment threat.

Kisumu County Locals Voice spokesperson Audi Ogada speaking to Hivisasa on phone on Thursday, called upon the county government to set up a structural and audit team to inspect old and weak buildings that were of no use and which pose risks.

Ogada said some of the abandoned houses are used as hiding dens for thieves and besides could harm residents when they collapse.

“We call upon the county government to come up with a task force to demolish old and abandoned houses which harbour for thieves,” said Ogada.

Besides, they pose a threat to residents when they collapse, said the residents’ spokesperson.

His colleague, Beatrice Ogola, noted the importance of demolishing the dumped old houses to make the areas locals safe for the stay as they posed a threat to human life.
