Nyumba Kumi Officer in Munyaka village, Gatundu North Sub-County, Eliud Mugo has urged the public to stop bribing the police in a bid to escape trial.
Speaking on Thursday at Mariaini Christian church during a Nyumba Kumi officers meeting in Gituamba ward, Mugo said corruption in the police sector was facilitated by the public, due to their negligence and agreeing to bribe police officers.
“My fellow residents take caution while dealing with police and shun all attempts to engage in corruption in exchange of escaping trial even after committing crimes. The truth to all aggregations is held in a court of law and that is the only place someone can be freed,” said Mugo.
He added: “I say this with a lot of sadness since we cannot completely eradicate evils in the society with you expanding them to police.”
He said the Gatundu North Sub-County Anti-corruption Committees will be strengthened and enhanced to fight corruption in the region.
“We will with the aid of our seniors, ensure that corruption committees in this region and Kiambu at large are formed and reinforced,” said Mugo.
The meeting was held with the aim of helping counter corruption and set measures of sensitising citizens on their rights.
Mariaini officer Martin Wambakwa commended the area chief for improving security by establishing a police station in Mataara as well as eradicating illicit brew in the area.
He further requested the public to help fight corruption by providing information of all corrupt police officers in the area.
