Some 22 people are set to appear in a Thika Court on Monday after police in Thika East apprehended them while on a drinking spree.
The group was allegedly drinking past the stipulated time on Saturday and the culprits are said to have been drinking at a famous pub in Ngoliba. Allegedly, the pub's operators had closed the revellers inside. Police were notified by a concerned resident of the area with the area OCPD Daniel Chacha leading a team of officers in conducting the arrests.
Area Deputy County Commissioner Doreen Gatwiri has issued a stern warning to bar owners and operators contravening the Mututho Law. She added that no bar in the area with has an operating license at the moment.
She added that the fight against the unwanted types of alcoholic drinks is still on and that officers are intensifying the raids.
The commissioner has fired a stern warning against chiefs in the area who are lenient on criminals as they receive bribes. She said that each administrator will be responsible for their actions.
“Everyone should protect their territory. We need results from these raids and we expect to curb this menace in no time,” she said.
