Two wrangling clans from West Mugirango Constituency have vowed to work together after years of animosity that was evident even in their voting patterns.

The Bosamaro and Bogochora clans have been at loggerheads with each side voting in members of Parliament from their tribe.

But on Monday, elders from the two clans agreed to work together as a team besides reaching a deal that will see an MP elected from the two sides on a rotational basis after every 10 years.

This means that an MP will go for two terms. Each term has five years according to the constitution.

“I want to confirm that the animosity between the two clans is now is a thing of the past. Those who thought that the two clans cannot work together are misled. We have agreed to settle our political scores by ensuring that the MP’s seat is served by a single clan for just ten years,” said Mzee James Masara.

They urged politicians to respect the agreement saying it was the only solution to end the enmity between the two sides.

“They have no option other than to respect the agreement. We want to thrive by playing politics of inclusion rather than separation,” he added.

Efforts to reach the incumbent MP James Gesami who comes from the Bogichora clan were futile since he could neither receive calls nor respond to our texts.

However, the truce is likely to be achieved since a number of elders who attended the meeting are said to be allied to him.
