Residents of Ruiru and Gatundu sub-counties have rejected the re-licensing of over 58 bars in the area saying they are located near social amenities.
The residents said they want the number of bars in the area reduced further as a move to stem alcohol and drug abuse in the sub-counties.
Residents in Ruiru had earlier raised concerns over their exclusion from the vetting and licensing of pubs in the area by chiefs.
Area MP Esther Gathogo who poked holes in the vetting process, claiming that there are plans to reopen more bars thereby reversing the strides made in the fight against alcoholism.
The legislator, however, lauded the public and said that the move shows that Ruiru people have vowed to shun alcoholism to foster development.
On Thursday, Gatundu residents rejected over 198 bars in the area after the county government approved 332 of them to operate.
However, the number was reduced, a move that has been lauded by Kiambu legislators who attended the vetting process.
