Deputy President William Ruto has urged governors and other elected leaders allied to the opposition to work with the Jubilee government and help promote development.
Speaking at Machakos Girls High School on Tuesday, Ruto said that development should not be based on political interests.
The DP welcomed governors and other leaders allied to the opposition urging them to support the development initiatives being made by the Jubilee government.
Ruto took issue with Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leaders who he accused of frustrating the government development agenda and cutting links between the governors and the government.
“No one should dictate to governors whom to support or not to support when it comes to development,” he said.
Ruto said that for counties to scale up development projects they will have to work with the national government.
“Politics ended with the 2013 general election and we should aim to work as a team for the sake of our country,” he said.
The DP defended Machakos governor Alfred Mutua against claims of betrayal to his party saying that Mutua shares the same vision of development the government has.
“They should not harass or intimidate governor Mutua because he is working with us,” he said.
Governor Mutua on his part vowed to work with the Jubilee government.
“I don’t need to seek permission from anyone so that I can work with the Jubilee government. Machakos people need development and development will come if I join hands with the government,” said Mutua.
