Head teachers and school boards of management in Nyamira have been put on notice over misuse of school funds.

Speaking at Gesiaga Secondary School on Sunday, Nyamira South, Sub-County Education officer, Kennedy Manono attributed the deteriorating learning environment in public schools to poor management of resources by school heads and management boards.

"Every year, the government disburses over Sh40 million to cater for maintenance of infrastructure and other expenses in public learning institutions," he said.

The officer called upon school management boards to ensure that funds allocated for maintenance are well utilised to improve the learning environment.

He also noted that the anticipated introduction of performance contracting by the Teachers Service Commission  (TSC) would ensure rogue teachers do not fail to attend classes.

"Parents should be good ambassadors of the government to ensure that resources set aside for development and improving the schools' performance are spent well," he added.

Manono also advised form four candidates in the school to ensure that they avoid cheating in the 2015 national examinations.
