Thika resident magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo has reiterated an earlier call by Chief Justice Willy Mutunga for people embroiled in disputes to resolve them through elders where applicable.
Onsarigo says that this method of dispute resolution will save time and money spent by families in the long, costly and tedious court processes.
"It is always good and advisable to seek the help of the elders or local leaders rather than in the court more so when it involves members of the same family. This method ensures that cohesion in the family is maintained," Onsarigo said.
Speaking on Wednesday during the hearing of a case of four brothers who have a land dispute before the Thika court, Onsarigo said there is no need for blood brothers who will have to co-exist after the case to engage in protracted court battles.
"Do not ignore village elders, chiefs and their assistants who can mediate and help resolve the dispute amicably. Court should be the last option," he noted.
The four brothers from Mang'u, Gatundu North are disputing on how to share a 15-acre piece of land they inherited from their father who died before writing a will.
