A nominated Senator Martha Wangari has called on Cord to stop accusing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and instead work for the good will of Kenyans.
Wangari said Cord is dragging politics in the running of IEBC and its threat is ill-timed.
“Cord has sensed defeat ahead of 2017 polls and is making threats to boycott the 2017 general elections," said Senator Wangari adding that Cord should respect and give IEBC space to exercise its mandate.
“The electoral agency is a neutral body that works for the benefits of Kenyans and is not affiliated to any political party. IEBC is neither for Jubilee nor Cord. It represents the interests of all Kenyans," added Wangari.
Senator Wangari also denied Cord accusations that IEBC is a puppet of some powerful politicians and urged Cord to respect IEBC's mandate.
Wangari's remarks come at a time when Cord has said it will not participate in the 2017 polls unless IEBC is reconstituted. The UDF party nominated senator was speaking on Tuesday morning in Gilgil Town, Nakuru County where she called on the opposition to show respect for IEBC.
Wangari also called for elite women to help in empowering women in the grass root. “Women at grass root need our assistance to enable them contribute to the welfare of their families and the nation at large," said Senator Wangari.
She said the one-third rule should be enhanced in public and private sectors to empower women both economically, socially and politically.
Wangari further cautioned youths against radicalisation and extremism and urged them to contribute to the growth of the country by working hard.
