Church leaders are now calling on the government to protect albinos.
Speaking on Sunday at a church service in Kisumu's St Anne’s Catholic Church, Father Peter Akach appealed to the government to protect rights of albinos.
He said albinos are facing the danger of malicious attacks from some people who believe in witchcraft.
“The national government should protect albinos who are facing danger from some greedy members of the public who believe in witchcraft. It is very unfortunate that some people can exchange the life of another person for money,” regretted Fr Akach.
He added that albinos have equal rights to other citizens saying that their color should not determine how they are treated.
“We are all equal in the eyes of the Lord. No one is a lesser being because of their skin colour. We should protect each and every individual,” he said.
He also urged members of the the public to be vigilant and help curb vices such as human trafficking.
Albinos have fallen victims of attacks by people believed to be engaging in witchcraft, who chop off and sell their private body parts.
