The national government through the National Fund for the Disabled in Kenya has donated equipment and machines to people living with disabilities in Nyamira County to enable them earn a living.
Nyamira Deputy County Commissioner Dennis Kirui hailed the national government for the equipment and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of them to reap maximum profits.
“We appreciate the national government and we feel that it is concerned about the welfare of the disabled by giving them the equipment. It is now your responsibility to take care of them and make good use of them,” said Kirui during the presentation ceremony on Wednesday.
Women received sewing machines and salon equipment such as blow dries and driers, while the men were given service kitties, welding machines and carpentry kits.
Benard Aduda, who is the fund’s assistant programme manager, urged other disabled people to come out and apply for the programme noting that only those who have registered will be considered.
Aduda also urged the beneficiaries to keep take good care of the equipment to enable them earn living.
“As you take these machines home, go and work hard, do not lease them out. We shall do a follow up to ensure that you are using them well,” warned Aduda.
