Stephjoy Secondary schools in Limuru, will be opening next week after closure following fire incidences in July 19 (girls) and August 3 (boys), which destroyed dormitories.

According to Stephen Mugambi, the school director, the affected dormitories have been reconstructed, ready for occupation and they expect students will be reporting starting September 1.

“We have been compensated by CIC, our insurer and everything is in order. We are ready for third term and we would urge all students to report back on time because this is the shortest term and we need to recover the time we lost,” he said.

He said that girls are supposed to report on Tuesday September 1, while the boys school is expected to reopen on Thursday September 3.

Speaking during the presentation of a cheque of Sh5.8 million, CIC Insurance Group general manager for strategy and marketing, Joseph Kamiri said that it is important for schools to be insured because incase of any damage parents would not be forced for the loss.

“In Kenya only 1000 schools have been insured and we urge those who have not insured their school to do so because you will be sure that incase of anything your property is secure,” he said.

Kamiri said that parents should not fear taking their children back because they will not be asked to pay any extra money.
