A 30-year-old man suspected to be a thief was on Monday lynched by angry mob at Bogichora village in Nyamira County.
The suspect was found selling chicken at Kebirigo Market. He together with other two suspected thieves allegedly stole on Sunday night from Bogichora village which made the mob to stoned him to death before his body was reduced to ashes.
Confirming the incident, Nyamira police commander Rico Ngare said the deceased was a long-time suspect but warned anybody against taking law into their hands.
Commander Ngare said a suspect of any criminal offense should be reported to police for arrest, noting that killing the suspect will not end theft.
“The man was was alleged to be one of the suspects in the area who has been stealing chicken and house holds. It was his proverbial 40th day. However, I warn anybody against contravening the law and also taking law into their hands. A suspect should not be killed but be reported to the police so that they can be arrest and charged in courts of law,” warned Commander Ngare.
He added, “The suspect can guide us in arresting more other suspects in connection with theft and therefore killing them makes other individuals continue engaging in other criminal activities.”
