Two suspects were on Tuesday arraigned before a Kisumu court charged with possessing fake Kenyan currency.

The two, Denis Olal and Timothy Macharia denied the charges before Principal magistrate Thomas Obutu for the offence they allegedly committed on August 5, in Kibos, Kisumu.

According to the prosecution, the two were arrested with fake currency notes in denominations of Sh500 totaling to Sh5, 000 which they were using to transact business.

The court was told that the suspects tried to buy a car battery from a hawker in Kibos who declined after suspecting the notes.

Olal and Macharia, the prosecution added, are said to have tried their luck with another hawker who also refused to serve them.

However, one hawker alerted the police who were manning a road block who then tracked the suspects within Kibos Market and arrested them.

They were released on a Sh10, 000 cash bail with surety of a similar amount after the prosecution failed to block their bail application.

The case will be heard on September 2.
