Children from Gracious Hope Children’s center in Kitutu Masaba have a reason to smile after a local politician donated Sh600,000 to be used for their upkeep.

The children’s home hosts about 60 children, mainly orphans.

The home will also receive an additional support from the politician that will see children from the center who will excel in Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) 2015 exams receive free secondary school education sponsorship.

Speaking on Wednesday when he made the donation, aspiring Kitutu Masaba MP Mr Victor Swanya said he was keen to support less privileged children in the society.

Swanya hailed volunteers for supporting such centers and challenged Kenyans to give back to the society by supporting such initiatives.

“It’s not one's choice to be an orphan. They too deserve care and that can be realised if the fortunate give back to the society. I am pleased that the cheque will be used for purchase of most pressing needs for the children,” he said.

Swanya who emerged fourth in 2013 parliamentary polls urged local leaders to invest in education by supporting needy children who excel in their studies.

“I would like to see those who will be sitting for exams excelling because I am ready to see them advance in their studies, the local leadership should take education seriously. It will be absurd if we fail to support brilliant, needy children in the society,” he added.

During the visit, the politician also donated clothing and goods worth Sh50,000 to the children center.
