The National Lands Commission Chairman, Muhammad Swazuri, has called on Mavoko residents to abide by the rule of law and show patriotism.

Addressing members of the public in Athi River Town on Thursday, Swazuri said there is no Kenyan who is above the law in spite of his social status in the country.

"I call on all of you as Mavoko residents to exercise patriotism by abiding by the rule of law since nobody is above the law in spite of his social status in the community," said Swazuri.

Swazuri noted that most Kenyans did not take laws and regulations which regulate land issues seriously hence kept braking them.

He said the public should know that going against the law has dire consequences as stipulated in various different legislation.

The chairman sited land grabbing as the greatest breach of law that majority of Kenyans engage in.

John Oudia, a Mavoko resident concurred with the chairman stating that some known individuals had specialised in land grabbing and broking in the region.

Oudia however claimed that such individuals were not ordinary residents but well connected tycoons most of who do not live within Machakos County.

Swazuri called on members of the public to be on the look out for such people and support the government in ensuring that public land is well protected from grabbers in the region.

He said the relevant authorities were on high alert to net those who continue trading in the illegal sale of grabbed public and private land.
