The Kenya National Union of Teachers Kisii branch has warned secondary schools’ principals and their primary schools’ counterparts against signing roll calls as directed by the Teachers Service Commission.

Speaking while leading teachers in a demonstration in the town, branch chairman Albert Ondimu told the heads of schools not to collect the TSC circulars from the county director’s office.

Nyaundi, who was accompanied by the teachers and other public members said the teachers will devise a method to destroy those circulars.

Accompanied by pupils who were shouting 'hatutaki laptop tunataka walimu' in their demonstration, Nyaundi reiterated that the parents will also join them in subsequent demonstrations.

He further added that the teachers were demonstrating to demand for the increase of the salary awarded to them by the Supreme Court.

He noted that TSC had compelled teachers to go on strike, yet it was its officials who proposed an increment of salary between 50 to 60 per cent.

At the same time, the chairperson emphasized that all teachers will get directives from the union officials and not TSC, adding that they will not back down because of the threats.

He added that teachers will only resume work after receiving payment for their salary increment.
