Tension engulfed Nyabogoe village in Kitutu Masaba constituency, after a middle aged man was allegedly killed by his two brothers following a land row.
According to eye witnesses, trouble began on Tuesday night after the deceased, Ben Nyagaka engaged in a heated quarrel with his brothers; Willian Nyagaka and John Bosire over a 1 acre piece of land before fighting erupted.
Nyagaka is said to have been hit by a blunt object by his brothers before he succumbed to his injuries at Keroka District Hospital
“It was a normal quarrel over the land because they have been squabbling over the piece of land for a long time now. The case is still before the community elders waiting for determination. They started at around midnight before we heard unusual cry only to find the victim lying down,” said Joel Morumbwa.
According to the witnesses, the accused then ran away from the village to escape a possible lynch by the crowd that had gathered in the compound.
“They were clearly in the deceased’s compound at the time of the incident and ran away after committing the crime. I think they must have feared a possible mob lynch by angry villagers. The deceased died at Keroka when receiving treatment,” said Timothy Omboe a neighbour.
Sargent Peter Keter of Gesima police post urged residents to give police credible information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
“It is indeed sad that we can lose a life from a simple case that could have been handled. I call upon residents to help us arrest those who allegedly executed the crime,” he said.
