Thika MP Alice Ng'ang'a has launched a clean up exercise in a bid to maintain a hygienic environment in the area.
Speaking on Thursday at Kiganjo Shopping Centre in Thika Town during the launch of the exercise, Ng'ang'a urged residents to maintain a hygienic environment to avert an outbreak of diseases.
She noted that a high percentage of diseases treated in hospitals are caused by poor hygiene.
“Most patients suffer from dysentery, typhoid and water-borne diseases as a result of poor hygiene,” said Ng'ang'a.
She further urged the residents to clean the environment in a bid to attract investors.
“Cleanliness is the only way to attract investors who are willing to put up businesses so that youth can be employed,” said Ng'ang'a.
The law maker said she is committed to enhancing the provision of sanitation facilities to improve the quality of life of Thika residents.
Ng'ang'a also said the war against second generation brews would be extended to private homes following allegations that brewers have shifted their stocks from their dens to residential areas.
The legislator said she would not allow youth to consume the brews in the residential areas.
“We have evidence that the illicit liquor has found its way to residential homes and we will purse it there,” said Ng'ang'a.
Ng'ang'a said local leaders would not relent in the fight against second generations brews.
She told those engaging in the illegal business to expect more from anti-alcoholic campaigners and urged those harbouring the drinks to surrender them to the provincial administration.
