Three men were on Tuesday arraigned before a Kikuyu court for allegedly gang raping a 40-year-old woman in Kabete, Kikuyu Sub County.
The three, Noel Njenga, Martin Maina and David Kinuthia denied committing the offence before Kikuyu Resident Magistrate Teresia Muwa.
The prosecution told the court that on February 29, 2015 in Kabete at around 9pm, the three attacked the woman at a small bush when she was coming from work.
The woman tried to defend herself but the three were strong enough for her. She tried screaming but they beat her and one of them squeezed his hand on her mouth to silence her. They gang raped her and left her bleeding and in pain before escaping.
However, one of the suspects, Kinuthia, dropped his wallet which contained his identification card.
She was rescued by good Samaritans and the incident reported at the Kabete Police Station before she was taken to Kikuyu Hospital. The report from a doctor indicated that the woman was raped and suffered injuries on her genitals.
However, later on she was found to be HIV positive.
Months later, police on patrol in Kabete arrested Kinuthia at a local pub in the area. They were able to identify him using the photo on his ID card. The suspect later helped the police identify his accomplices.
The other two were arrested from their homes in Kinoo. The suspects were taken to Kabete Police Station and presented before on Monday.
The magistrate released them on a Sh1 million cash bail each. The case will be mentioned on July 8 and heard on July 22.
