Three people were early on Sunday morning arrested in Maseno for allegedly cutting down trees along a river bank in the area.
The three were arrested by the police after locals alerted the area chief.
They were allegedly found with a power saw machine, 2 pangas and 8 logs.
Residents say they heard the sound of trees falling and a distance sound of the power saw machine, something which they say is very rare in the area.
“I heard some people cutting tree in the catchment area and I went to confirm. I then called the chief who responded by bringing along police officers,” said a resident who requested not to be named.
The three who are said to have failed to produce a permit were then escorted to the police station.
“I want to thank the residents for their support in nailing these culprits. If not for your help we would not have managed to find them. Keep up with the same spirit for protection of the environment is our duty,” Said Nicholus Toro, the area Chief.
