Three people were on Monday charged before a Maseno law court for assaulting a driver at the Kisumu bus stage.

The three, Gregory Ochieng, Steve Amiani and Paul Kirui denied the charges before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Esther Maina for the offence allegedly committed on the October 20.

According to the prosecution, the three attacked a Kisumu public service vehicle driver Jackson Okello after a scuffle over parking space.

The court heard that Okello who drives a matatu that plies the Chemelil route had parked in the wrong space hence preventing other vehicles from getting customers. 

The court heard that Okello was pulled out of his vehicle and assaulted where he sustained back injuries.

He was then taken hospital by other touts who came to his rescued. Okello was discharged from the New Nyanza General Hospital after one day where he filed a police report. 

The three were released on a cash bail of Sh5,000 each with a surety of a similar amount. 

The case will be heard on the January 14.
