Two traffic police officers from Tigoni police station and one from Kinungi have been suspended after they allegedly released a vehicle that was involved in an accident on Monday.
The officers are said to have ignored calls from concerned road users to apprehend an allegedly drunk and speeding pastor who caused two accidents, one at Tigoni and another one at Limuru.
Police spokesman Masoud Mwinyi has confirmed that they have received information about the incident and that there are claims the officers were informed before they apprehended the culprit, who is in hiding.
“We have information over what happened but we have to investigate. Meanwhile as it stands, the four officers involved in this case remain suspended,” Mwinyi said on phone.
Allegedly, the pastor was speeding past a road block and the police did not take any action against him.
According to an eyewitness who pleaded for anonymity, the pastor was driving on the wrong side of the road when he hit a saloon car belonging to a couple.
Kiambu County Police Commander James Mugera said action will be taken against officers who fail to deliver in their work.
He said that the implicated officers will be investigated to ensure they are punished according to the law if found culpable.
The eyewitnesses have also pledged to testify against the officers who they informed about the incident. They will remain anonymous according to Mwinyi.
