A truck driver was on Monday night shot dead by unknown assailants at Ol Donyo Sabuk bridge, Yatta sub county along Garissa road, only a week after theft suspects narrowly escaped lynching by the members of public at the bridge.
Yatta OCPD Edward Kipsang said about six highway robbers shot dead the truck driver who was transporting gas cylinders from Thika to Kitui at about 9pm.
The conductor was not injured during the incident.
Kipsang said that circumstances under which the six armed robbers struck were similar to last week's incident where police intervened as members of the public had gathered at the scene at night causing commotion.
He said that the robbers took away two mobile phones belonging to the driver and the conductor and also took Sh20, 200 from the victims.
The OCPD said although nobody had been arrested in connection with the incident, police were carrying investigations.
"We are pursuing the gunmen and we are urging members of the public to give us any information about there whereabouts," said the police boss.
He called on the public to assist the police in the investigations saying that the residents know very well who has been attacking them as the incidences are increasing day by day.
The body of the truck driver was taken to Yatta Level Four Hospital morgue.
