A section of truck drivers have lauded the national government for considering construction of a new weigh bridge in Mlolongo town.
Addressing the press in Mlolongo town, the drivers through their spokesman, Abdi Noor, said if completed, the new bridge would reduce jam at the weighbridge thereby saving their precious time.
"We truck drivers, especially those who always cover long distances are impressed with the government for seeing the need to construct the new bridge, it will do more good to us," said Noor.
Noor said the current weighbridge was not able to serve the hundreds of trucks and lorries which pass through it plying on Mombasa Road on daily basis.
He said the bridge would also enable them park their vehicles safely whenever they wanted to spend nights at Mlolongo town as opposed to the current situation.
"These weighbridge under construction looks very modern and of state of art, we hope it will offer us better and safer parking for our vehicles whenever we want to spend nights in Mlolongo," said Noor.
Noor said the truck drivers spend averagely six hours on cure in a day awaiting for weighing at the current weigh bridge and at times 24 hours depending on the numbers of vehicles waiting for their contents to be weighed.
He noted that the bridges construction would also open up frequent traffic snarl ups on road within the town which in most cases is caused by long cues of trucks, lorries, trailers and containers awaiting to pass through the weighbridge thereby overlapping into the main road.
