The Kenya National Union of Teacher (Knut) has maintained that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) must pay teachers their September salaries.

Speaking on Tuesday at Vundubar Hotel in Kisumu, Knut National Treasurer John Matiang’i  asked the government to ensure the TSC does not to victimize the teachers.

“Teachers have patiently waited for their September salaries. Many who had taken loans from banks are selling their property and our government is watching,” he lamented.

Matiang'i said that the Labour Relations Act was clear on the union dues adding that they should be submitted to the employer within 10 days after deductions.

“We want to ask President Uhuru Kenyatta to listen to the cries of this nation. We are waiting for the ruling on November 6. We have been so quiet,” he said.

The Knut official claims that four teachers have died out of the frustrations of their salaries citing a recent case where a teacher in Rachuonyo committed suicide.

“Teachers are proud citizens of this country. Now teachers are crying, mourning and hanging themselves,” he said.
