Kenyans have been urged to embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative since it is a platform in beefing up security in the country.
Speaking on Monday in his office Kamukunji Senior Chief David Simatei said that since its inception insecurity cases have really reduced in his area of jurisdiction.
“Nyumba kumi initiative has helped in identifying any foreigner in our midst with questionable characters who turn reported to relevant authority’s thus reducing crime cases,” he said.
He added the National government should come up with a framework that will ensure the Nyumba Kumi initiative leaders are thoroughly trained and paid dearly for them to work at ease as compared to now where they lack training and paid nothing.
He reiterated that the national government should devolve the security docket to the county level and involve county leaders in the managing of security since they have an upper hand in knowing what is happening in their midst.
“Chiefs, Assistant chiefs and village elders should be involved directly on matters security, since they have direct contact with the people on the ground thus have the knowhow of what is happening, therefore easy to identify if there is a security crisis,” he added.
He also advised the government to adopt the former president Moi way of leadership by employing informers in all the 47 counties, who will play a major role in informing the national government directly on what is happening on the ground.
“Parts of the constitution regarding security should be rectified, where security mandate should be given to one person unlike at the moment where the response of the police is poor since they cannot act unless they are given a go ahead by their seniors,” he echoed
He urged Administration officers and Regular police to put down their differences and work hard for the betterment of the security of Kenyans people.
“Kenyans should remain vigilant and should not take the recent attacks as religious but terrorism attacks therefore should report any persons with questionable characters in their midst since security begins with them,” he advised
