Teachers from the larger Masaba Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) branch will be operating under different leadership from January 2016.

This decision has been made as a way of increasing efficiency and services delivery, a senior Knut official has revealed.

The branch has been under the leadership of Masaba branch; a combination of Masaba North and South which now fall in different counties (Nyamira and Kisii respectively).

Speaking at Nyakongo High school on Tuesday when he visited KCSE candidates, Masaba Knut branch secretary general Meshack Ombong'i said the executive committee had agreed on Monday to decentralise the leadership to improve efficiency on delivery.

“I am happy to tell our Masaba teachers that we will be operating as two independent branches from January 2016. The executive committee agreed on that and as the secretary general, I am making arrangements to ensure all logistics are in place before next year,” he said.

Ombong’i said the executive settled for Keroka as where the new offices for Masaba North will be while Masaba South branch will have its offices in Masimba township, Kisii County.

The incumbent deputy secretary general, James Oteki has been endorsed as interim secretary general for Masaba North with Ombong'i taking over the south branch.

“Teachers are sharp people and we have already made decisions. Oteki will be the Secretary General in North branch while I will remain in our south branch,” he added.

He said the executive committee members will meet later in October to put mechanisms on division of premises owned by the larger Masaba branch.
