Laikipia and Egerton universities have been urged to establish satellite campuses in Subukia town in Nakuru County as a way of boosting education in the area.

This is according to the Director of Thika Royal College Elisaphan Kimuya who said the town needs a university campus considering the huge number of students seeking education in institutions of higher learning.

Kimuya said, “Laikipia University is a stone throw away yet it has not established a satellite campus in Subukia Town. The same case with Egerton University yet there are some students from these two universities who commute daily in their quest for education. Therefore it will be prudent for the two universities to start campuses here in Subukia.”

He said this would play a great role in transition of students from secondary school to university, as they will be able to access education near them.

“This will also improve literacy in this area as parents and those who dropped out will have a chance to continue with their education,” Kimuya said on Sunday while addressing a group of residents in Subukia.

He urged parents and teachers in the sub-county to join hands in improving education by putting aside any differences they may have for the sake of the children’s education, adding that successful education is a collective responsibility for all.

“When parents play their part by providing the needs of the child while at home, the teachers work hard in teaching them in school and the government employs more teachers and motivates them, there is no doubt students will perform well in their education when they also work hard,” he added.

At the same time, the educationist called on all leaders of Subukia to work together for the betterment of Subukia. He says development will not be achieved if all stakeholders are not involved to pull resources in one direction.

Kimuya is also involved in giving motivational and career talks to students and teachers in Subukia Sub-County.
