Vendors in Kikuyu Sub-County have been warned against operating businesses near transformers as it is dangerous.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, the deputy regional Kenya power chairman in the area Mr Simon Sauka said the department in the area had evicted vendors operating businesses near transformers but some were still going back to the same spots.
He said such vendors were risking their lives and disobeying the Kenya Power rules.
Sauka revealed that such vendors will be arrested and charged accordingly for not following the orders of the Kenya Power company.
He said most of the vendors do not know the risk they put themselves into by operating their businesses near or under transformers, and urged the vendors and also residents to stay away from the transformers.
He said vendors should operate at least 100 metres away from the transformers.
"We recommend that any operation should be 100 metres away. However, those vendors who still go back to operate where we evicted them should know that that we are not harassing them but saving them from any danger,” said Sauka.
He added, “If anyone is arrested, they shall serve as an example.”
The chairman also asked those building rental houses to build them 100 metres away from electric poles for safety purposes, adding that electric accidents can cause deaths thus residents and vendors should adhere to the set measures.
