Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Wareng branch executive secretary John Boor has urged teachers to boycott classes until they get formal communication from the union's national office.
Speaking to journalists in his office in Cheptiret on Wednesday Boor said that teachers should stay at home until the government honours the 50-60 percent pay increase as awarded to them by the industrial court and thereafter upheld by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
"I urge parents to stay at home with their children since taking them to school will not add anything to them since they wont be taught due to the teachers strike that is underway. We wont get back to class until the government pay us our dues," he said.
He accused the teachers' employer of trivialising the matter and digressing by claiming that other civil servants would be incited into demanding for increased pay.
"The strike is on and I urge all teachers to stay away from school, at least ten metres away. No one should threaten us to get back to school unless our increment is effected," he said
