Female nominated MCAs in Kisii want an Affirmative Action Fund established to help them contribute to projects meant to transform women and children welfare in the county.
Led by Isabella Mose of Ford-People, the MCAs lamented that they were finding it difficult to support their communities with various development projects since they only relied on their salaries which they say cannot do much.
Speaking to HiviSasa in Kisii town, Mose who was flanked by Jennifer Marube (ODM), Alice Boyani (NARC-K), Jane Kananga (ODM) and Isabella Oigara (PDP), observed that, the establishment of an Affirmative Action Fund for the nominated women MCAs will not only assist them move from one area to the other across the County supporting various development projects affecting women and the youth, but it will also give them a platform to exercise their leadership mandates for the benefit of the area residents.
They said in the absence of the kitty, they would continue lacking the capacity to educate the residents in the region on the importance of electing women leaders to various elective positions.
"Having an Affirmative Action Fund for nominated women MCAs will give them a medium through which they can interact and share with fellow women on their leadership potentials and opportunities, to ensure many women come on board to run for various elective seats against their male competitors instead of depending on nominations from their respective political parties, Mose said.
"It is difficult for nominated women MCAs to discharge their gender representation duties in the region if they lack resources and funds to support various community-based projects to endear themselves to the women constituency as part of enhancing their chances of being elected instead of waiting to be nominated by their respective political parties.," Marube added.
