A lorry loaded with rotten meat was impounded by police early on Tuesday after being found dumping them at King’eroo area in Kiambu County.

Some local residents had taken advantage of the stale meat and had started taking some to go sell them as muturas.

Confirming the incident, Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu said the lorry was spotted dumping the stale meat by some locals at around 8 am. The residents reported the matter to the police after trying to stop them in vain.

He said on arriving at the scene, police found one man busy dumping the stale meat.

He added that the driver of the lorry, who was Chinese, was the one who had authorised his worker to dump it there. The Chinese man and his worker were both arrested and will appear in court, said Maweu.

The police boss said some locals had taken advantage of the meat and taken away some to different areas of the region. He said police suspect that they were going to sell them at night as fried meat or even ‘mutura’.

“I want to warn those locals who took away the stale meat not to sell it. They should also not consume such meat as it will affect them. Whoever will be found selling the meat will find themselves in really serious problems and will face the wrath of the law,’’ said Maweu.

He also warned companies against dumping such wastes carelessly. He said they should seek for a licence to dump such waste.
