A 39-year-old woman was on Thursday charged before a Kisumu court with stealing household items from her neighbour.

Martha Omunga, a mother of three denied the charges before Chief magistrate Esther Maina for the offence allegedly committed on the October 1 in Manyatta Kisumu town.

Omunga is accused of stealing an iron box, utensils and two blankets from the house of Matildah Adhiambo.

According to the prosecution, Omunga had visited Adhiambo on the evening of October 1. During this time, Adhiambo received a call as they were chatting from a relative who asked her to go and pick him and the Kisumu bus station.

Adhiambo immediately left the home and asked Omunga to lock the doors and keep the keys for her to pick them later. When Adhiambo arrived, she realised things were not in order.

The court heard that the complainant discovered that some things were missing and decided to ask Omunga who claimed that she had not seen them.

The matter was reported to the police who launched investigations into the matter leading to the arrest of Omunga as all the stolen items were recovered in her house.

She was released on a cash bail of Sh5,000 with surety of a similar amount pending a hearing on December 14.
