Kiambu County Youths and Sports affairs CeC, Michael Waikenda has revealed that Kiambu Youth Week is set to start on July 10. The event aims to promote and support girls to participate in sports.

Waikenda who was speaking on Tuesday in Thika town said that he has held a meeting with Githurai Outreach Group (GOP) on ways to partner with county government to support the girl child’s participation in sports as a way of showcasing their talents.

He has expressed his concerns with women withdrawing from the county sports competition and called on more women to avail in large number in county events which will kick off on July 10 in different sub counties with main events focusing on women.

Waikenda lauded the men who greatly and thoroughly dominated in county government events challenging women to follow suit in ensuring they eat the same fruit the men are bragging around.

He has called on youth leaders in various constituencies to engage women and sensitize them on importance of nurturing their sports talents as a source of livelihood and a career on its own.

He said that the Kiambu Youth Week will focus on different competitions and sports events with winners walking away with great prizes thus women should mobilize their various teams and avail for the clash.

The CeC urged women not to feel inferior as opposed to men but be proactive in defending their rights which should starts on the sports field and narrow down to their homes.

Waikenda noted that unemployment has been the greatest cancer in Kenya due to youths not utilizing their talents to the fullest. He reiterated that it was a high time for them especially women to showcase their talents and make a livelihood out of it.
