Members of women groups in Yatta sub county have been advised to register organisations in order to benefit from business opportunities being offered by their county government.

Machakos county women representative Dr Susan Musyoka said unless the women transformed their groups into companies, they will not be awarded tenders being advertised from time to time by the county procurement committee.

Addressing members of all women groups in the area on Sunday, Dr Musyoka said women groups must change their management styles to benefit from the devolved system of government.

She said many groups in the area were well placed to supply foodstuffs to local hospitals and schools and their managements must adopt modern business management styles to keep with the changing business environment.

"I would like to urge all women groups to take these organisations seriously and compete for tenders at the county level," said Dr Musyoka.

She noted that women play a leading role in rural economic development and it was high time that their groups moved away from traditional ways of operating to raise their member standard of living.

The women called on the county government to prioritize the provision of water to residents so that they could produce more from their small pieces of land.
