As Kenyans gear up to elect new leaders in the 2017 elections, Kibera too has not been left behind as aspirants and their supporters position themselves for the polls.
This is witnessed in the paintings and writings on the walls and other structures within Kibera.
Residents term it political rivalry which is healthy but are oblivious of the people behind the paintings.
Gizmo Mohammed who runs a shop at DC says they always find new paintings and writings every single day, but do not know who drew them and at what time.
However, majority of them suspect the paintings and writings are done at night when people are asleep.
“We only wake up to find the writings not knowing who has painted,” he said.
Moses ochieng’ Onyango said the writings have shown how there might be a stiff competition in 2017 elections.
“All competition is allowed only that it should be healthy. I thank God because however much we have seen the writings increase in Kibera, it has not led to disharmony or misunderstandings. I want to urge fellow residents not to take any writings personal since we do not know who keeps writing them. This is politics and we should not fight, we both need good competition to elect quality leaders,” added Ochieng.
