A youth has been sentenced to two years in prison by a Nakuru court after he pleaded guilty to theft of mobile phones and money.

Maxwell Omondi was accused of stealing Sh50, 000 and a techno phone valued at Sh4, 000, property of Hellen Wairimu on September 30, 2015 in Nakuru town.

It’s alleged that Omondi went to the complainant’s office and opened the drawer where the money and the mobile phone had been kept.

Omondi faced a second account of stealing a Samsang Galaxy phone worth Sh8, 560 belonging to Abdi Ali Omar on September 24 at YMCA area within Nakuru.

He allegedly borrowed the phone from the complainant pretending to make a call before he disappeared.

He also faced a third account of stealing a techno phone worth Sh2,500 belonging to Shafi Alisudra Nasir on September 24, at Section 58 area.

The complainants reported the incidents to the police and Omondi was arrested on October 11 in Nakuru town.

He was taken to Nakuru Central police station where he was charged with the offence of stealing.

Appearing before Senior Principle magistrate Liz Gicheha, he pleaded guilty and prayed that the court have mercy on him when it makes its verdict.

“I pray for forgiveness from the court since I borrowed the phones and the complainants themselves gave them to me. I am remorseful and I will not repeat it again,”he said.

State prosecutor Cosmas Kunyua urged the court to give the accused a heavy penalty as investigations by the police have revealed that he is a habitual criminal.

The court sentenced Omondi to two years on each account which will be served concurrently.
