Seasoned politicians have been told to be ready for a grueling battle with youth who say they will vie for seats during the 2017 general election.
At a county youth leadership forum at the Nakuru Old Town Hall on Thursday, the young leaders expressed discontent with the current leaders saying they had failed to address grievances raised by the youth.
Nakuru County Young Leaders Association chair Harrison Muiruri who also doubles up as the county’s The National Alliance party youth leader noted that time had come for young people to take up leadership positions and transform the society.
He said that youth were suffering as a result of always playing second fiddle during elections something he reassured was never be the case.
“We cannot be supporters all the time. This is the time to put forward our development agenda and claim our positions,” he said.
According to Muiruri, the biggest problem with young people was tribalism and party affiliation which he said has continued to divide them.
“As much as we pretend, a majority of us allow ourselves to be manipulated and divided along tribal lines, that’s why we start fighting amongst ourselves rather than fight for our problems,” the young leader noted.
More than 50 young leaders and those wishing to vie for various political positions attended the forum and agreed to move as a block come 2017.
All sub-counties that sum up the larger Nakuru County were represented.
